Welcome to Alpine Rêverie: A Home Built from the Heart

When people ask me how two actuaries ended up with three artist daughters, I usually smile and say, “Well… I always wanted to be an artist too.”

I grew up in Quebec City, and my husband Doug is from Winnipeg. We met through our work — we’re both actuaries — and our careers took us to New York City, where we lived and worked for eight unforgettable years. I loved our pre-war apartment in Manhattan. Every inch of it - the high ceilings, the beautiful trims, the hallways, the old wooden floors - inspired me. And when we later bought a house on the Long Island Sound, I got to redesign it from top to bottom — a passion I’d been carrying since childhood.

I’ve always loved creating spaces that feel both peaceful and alive. As a kid, I used to rearrange my bedroom every week. It was one of my favourite things to do — even more than piano, skiing or sewing (and I loved those too). Later, when we moved to Toronto, I spent years restoring and reimagining our 1920s Victorian home in the Beaches, always blending the old with the new, always working with a calm, consistent palette. Think: clean lines, natural textures, and timeless design. I draw inspiration from Kelly Hoppen, my Quebec heritage, Scandinavian simplicity, the raw beauty of Iceland, and the serene balance of Japanese Zen gardens.

Cooking is another creative outlet I cherish. It started with my grandmother and grew even more when I discovered Martha Stewart during our years in the U.S. For me, food should be enjoyed — and design extends into the kitchen. That’s why Alpine Rêverie features a fully equipped gourmet kitchen, ready for everything from slow breakfasts to holiday feasts.

So when the dream of Alpine Rêverie began to take shape, it wasn’t just about building a vacation home — it was about creating an experience. A space where time slows down. Where you can breathe deeply, reconnect with nature, and be surrounded by beauty — indoors and out.

Nestled in the mountains on five acres, Alpine Rêverie offers breathtaking views in every direction. Step outside and you’ll find a heated outdoor pool, a wood-burning firepit, a sauna perched on a large rock, and a hot tub that’s perfect for stargazing. We’ve even included an EV charger for your convenience — and a stack of good old-fashioned board games for when you want to unplug.

Doug and I wanted this place to feel like a true retreat. Thoughtfully designed. Warm, minimal, and inviting. A home that feels luxurious, but lived-in — made for big family dinners, lazy mornings, and long afternoons in the sun.
